Chapter 1

The use of the proverbs given by Solomon (1:1-6)
An exhortation to fear God, believe His word, and obey your parents (1:7-9)
To avoid the enticings of sinners (1:10-19)
Wisdom complains that she is scorned (1:20-23)
She threatens those who despise her (1:24-33)


Chapter 2

Wisdom promises godliness to her children (2:1-9)
Safety from evil company (2:10-19)

The cursed state of the wicked (3:33-35)


Chapter 4

Solomon, to persuade obedience (4:1-2)
Shows the instruction he had from his parents (4:3-4)
To be diligent in seeking wisdom (4:5-13)
And to shun the path of the wicked (4:14-19)
He exhorts to faith (4:20-22)
And keep your heart holy (4:23-27)


Chapter 5

Solomon exhorts to the study of wisdom (5:1-2)
He shows the folly of adultery and riot (5:3-14)
He exhorts to contentment, and chastity. Be faithful to your spouse (5:15-21)
The wicked are overtaken by their own sins (5:22-23)


Chapter 6

Warning against guaranteeing a friend's liabilities (6:1-5)
Warning against being lazy (6:6-11)
And willful mischief-making (6:12-15)
The Seven deadly sins that are hateful to God (6:16-19)
The blessings of obedience (6:20-24)
Warning against committing adultery, and the damage done by lawlessness (6:25-35)


Chapter 7

Solomon reasons for a sincere familiarity with wisdom (7:1-5)
In an example which he has known (7:6-9)
He shows the cunning of a harlot (7:10-21)
And the desperate simplicity of her young victim (7:22-23)
He pleads for abstaining from such wickedness (7:24-27)


Chapter 8

The fame (8:1-5)
And evidence of wisdom (8:6-9)
The excellency (8:10-11)
The nature (8:12-14)
The power (8:15-17)
The riches (8:18-21)
And the eternity of wisdom (8:22-31)
Wisdom is to be desired for the blessedness it brings (8:32-36)

Chapter 1

The preacher shows that all human courses are vain: (1:1-3)
Because the whole creation is restless (1:4-8)
Nothing new is brought forth, and all old things are forgotten (1:9-11)
And because he has found the same in making studies of wisdom (1:12-18)


Chapter 2

The vanity of human courses in the works of pleasure (2:1-3)
Great works are in vain (2:4-11)
Though the wise be better than the fool, yet life for both has one final event (2:12-17)
The vanity of human labor, in leaving its fruits to someone whose course is unknown (2:18-23)
Nothing is better than joy in our labor, but the capacity for that is God's gift (2:24-26)


Chapter 3

By the necessary change of times, vanity is added to human toil (3:1-10)
There is an excellency in God's works (3:11-15)
God shall judge the righteous and the wicked (3:16-22)

The creator is to be remembered in youth (12:1-7)
The preacher's concern is to edify the people (12:8-12)
The fear of God is the chief antidote of vanity (12:13-14)
